Yes, you read that correctly: Right at the start of the year, the whole zenloop team went to beautiful, sunny Lisbon. Thirty zenloopies came together for workshops on creating new themes and features in design sprints and to move even closer together as a small family.
Because our zenloop family is now spread across the continent, our team weeks are an important part of our annual plans. This way we make a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere for all our team members to get acquainted, share information, and collaborate. We believe that the success of a company depends on the sense of community and the cooperation of its employees and supervisors.
Anyone who thinks that this was just a jolly in the sun at the firm’s expense is sadly mistaken. Despite the great location and (for January) very pleasant temperatures, the focus was on employee retention, motivation, and project work.
After arrival and a pleasant communal evening meal on Monday, on Tuesday it was straight to work with mini design sprints. In small, mixed teams we explored the requirements and possible solutions for future planned product features of our customer experience management platform. For example, we worked on new data and possibilities for our zenloop demo account or on improvements to the e-mail reporting of our NPS software.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we continued working on our designs. On Friday, results from our sprints were presented to the whole team and additional steps were discussed and recorded. In addition, individual departments presented their quarterly goals, to create greater transparency across all teams and departments.
Of course, team-bonding wasn’t ignored and in addition to the intensive work on product features, a little sightseeing was required to cool our smoking heads. On Thursday, we found ourselves in the mystical town of Sintra, where the zenloop team went on the trail of fairytale castles and old manor houses, before enjoying a spectacular sunset on the beach of Cascais.
To discover the rest of Lisbon, the zenloopies took a daredevil TukTuk rally across Lisbon. For three hours in small, diverse groups, they explored the beautiful city in the south, its most popular spots and monuments.
On Saturday morning, it was time to say goodbye. We had had a productive and labor-intensive week and we felt a little tired but very satisfied as we flew back to cold Berlin. We already look forward to the next team week - then hopefully with some other new zenloopies.
